About Olivia
I'm from a minuscule town in southern Indiana, where I was raised by a family that was, beyond accepting of my artistic goals, very encouraging of them. There were very few endeavors that my parents were not willing to let me at least try. They had one big stipulation, which was that if I was going to start something, I had to finish it. I can only recall one project that they allowed me to start that I didn't finish, and that project was displayed, half-completed, in the front window of our house for about ten years. By the time it was removed, the sun had bleached every last hint of color from it.
What started out as a caveat - to finish what I started - soon became an ingrained personal standard for myself. But as I grew older, I added my own rule: That if I was going to finish something, I was going to finish it right. I was not going to put my time and energy into anything that I was not going to be proud to lay claim to. This vastly affected my work in my studio classes at Hanover College. As a Studio Art major, I have to take a lot of studio classes, and the need to be able to take pride in the work I did has intensely improved the results of these classes.
Independent of my classwork, I like to experiment with mediums and techniques that I haven't learned yet, or to explore the mediums I have learned more thoroughly. I particularly enjoy charcoal, photography, and paper-cutting. The work that I challenge myself to do on my own tends to be very visual-based, although the projects I seem to become most enthused about tend to conceptually deal with the ideas of conflict, confrontation, or contradiction.
I have previously sold pieces of my artwork, and many of the pieces on my website are for sale. If you have any interest in one of them, please contact me. More often than that, however, I receive commissions for individual artworks. These are usually portraits, either from life or from photos, covers for things such as novellas and plays, or simply conceptual design sketches and drawings. These commissions are always done in the size and medium of the customer's choosing, although I am happy to advise. Again, please contact me if you are interested in having me do work for you. You can find my contact information below.
Once I graduate from school, I hope to more or less continue what I am already doing - making stuff and learning things. Ideally, I would have my own studio, be able to show pieces in a few different galleries, and accept commissions from individuals on a regular basis.
If you are interested in buying any of the pieces on this website, would like to request a commission, or just have a question, I would love to hear from you!
